5 Celebrities Who Entered a Teen Rehab Treatment Center

Substance abuse, eating disorders, and other mental health concerns can begin at any age. When these things happen to celebrities, they don’t have the luxury of hiding their personal lives from the public.

However, they often accept that aspect of fame and take the opportunity to advocate for increased awareness and access to mental health resources. Here are five celebrities who attended teen rehab centers while they were teenagers.

1. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is known for being vocal about their struggles with addiction and mental health concerns. Lovato was first admitted to rehab at the age of 18. They were diagnosed with bipolar disorder and given the mental health support they needed. They have spoken about their struggles with:

  • Anorexia
  • Bulimia
  • Self-harm
  • Substance use disorder

Lovato uses their fame as a platform to raise awareness about addiction and other mental health concerns, especially their impact on young people.

2. Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton was admitted to a teen treatment center and boarding school at the age of 17. The center she attended engaged in many abusive methods of discipline. Although Hilton’s experiences at the school brought more harm than good, Hilton decided to make the most of it.

She spoke openly against the terrible practices she endured, advocating for changes to how teens are treated in treatment and demanding increased oversight.

3. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore is well known for her struggles with substance use at a young age. Since she was a child, Barrymore has been on screen, becoming famous for her role in E.T. the Extraterrestrial at age 7.

The Hollywood social circle Barrymore’s parents lived in exposed her to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and she entered a teen rehab treatment center at 13. Barrymore’s attempts to overcome her addictions were successful, and she has long been known as a stable, successful actress.

4. Kelly Osborne

Kelly Osborne also struggled with drugs from an early age. Although she was born into the fame of Hollywood, her substance use issues didn’t begin at glamorous parties. Instead, Osborne had her tonsils out at age 13 and received painkillers to aid her recovery. She began seeking out other drugs after that initial experience. She finally entered a teen rehab treatment center at age 19 when her parents, Sharon and Ozzy Osborne, discovered her substance use.

5. Haley Joel Osment

For a time, Haley Joel Osment was one of the best-known child actors in Hollywood due to his roles in movies like Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense, and Secondhand Lions. At age 18, he was involved in a car accident while under the influence. The accident led him to enroll in a teen rehab center. Osment took the lessons of rehab to heart. He thanks his parents for their support in helping him get the treatment he needed for lasting recovery.
